In January 2009 Corriere della Sera adducing at archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi announced that Vatican will have their own pavilion at 2011 Venice Biennale.

The chairman of the Pontifical Council for Culture intimated his decision to Venice Biennale representatives and Italian minister of culture.
Corriere della Sera called this initiative as a Crusade which intent is to put church in a place which nowadays is the most antagonistic place for church - contemporary art.
Archbishop Ravasi said that he thinks in Vatican's pavilion may find a place for few artists from all continents. He also listed artists who he appreciate for "using of symbols": Bill Viola, Anish Kapoor and Jannis Kounellis.
Polish journalist Adam Horta considers that in Vatican's pavilion may find a palce for polish artist. He thinks the biggest chance have Mirosław Bałka and The Krasnals group.
